About

The ~ことは~が pattern is used to express that "X is true, but... (contrasting Y statement).

For the ~ことは~が pattern, ことは should be preceded and followed by two of the same verb/い-adjective/な-adjective/noun.

E.g. ねつがあったことはあったけど、そこまでひどくはならなかった。 "I did have a fever, but it didn't get that bad."

「が」 may be substituted for any other "but" conjunction, depending on the formality/politeness of the sentence.

な-adjectives/nouns should attach to ことは using な or である.

E.g. 大変たいへんことは大変たいへんけれどわったときおおきな達成感たっせいかんがあります。 "It is difficult, but when you finish there's a large sense of accomplishment."

E.g. 残念ざんねんであることは残念ざんねんである文句もんくってもしかたがない。 "It is too bad, but there's no use complaining."

When using the 「(noun)ことは(noun)が......」pattern, the noun being used must describe an aspect/attribute of something.

E.g. いま満席まんせきことは満席まんせきけど、すぐくとおもう。 "It is full now, but I think some space will open up soon."
