About

The verb 直なおす ("to fix; to correct") can be combined with a verb stem in order to express that an action is "re-done". 〜直なおす statements specifically indicate that an action is done over in order to achieve a better result.

Common combinations are 書かき直なおす ("re-write"), し直なおす ("re-do"), 見み直なおす ("review"), etc.

直なおす may also be left in its stem form to form a noun-like verb, e.g. the very common 「やり直なおし」("do-over").
