～によると ・～によれば

About

～によると is a combination of the に particle, the verb よる ("to rely on; to lean on; to be based on") and the quotation marker と. ～によると is used to refer to sources, and is often translated to "based on" or "according to".

によると can be directly attached to nouns.

E.g. 天気てんき予報よほうによると、明日あしたはなかなか寒さむくなるらしいよ！ "According to the weather report, tomorrow is supposed to be quite cold!"

によると can be attached to verbs using ところ.

E.g. 見みたところによると、それは偽物にせもののようです。 "Based on what I saw, that seems to be a fake.

～によると has alternate forms ～によりますと (more polite), and ～によれば (interchangeable in casual speech, but によると is favored in formal situations).
