About
The ~というものだ pattern is used to make declarative value/judgment statements (think: "X is a thing that Y") about a given subject.
~というものだ statements are based on general sentiment/common sense, rather than the speaker's individual opinions.
~というものだ is always present-affirmative, and has no negative or past forms.
〜というものだ makes strong declarations based on generally accepted values.
E.g. 隣の芝は青く見えるというものです。 "The grass is always greener on the other side."
E.g. 楽しいことも辛いこともある。それが人生というものだ。 "There are fun times, and there are hard times. That is life."
E.g. 人の話は最後まで聞くというものだ。 "When people are saying something, (one ought to) listen until the end."
