～（より）ほかない

About

The 〜よりほかない pattern is used to express that one "has no choice but to do X".

より may be omitted from よりほかない, and the に particle, は particle, or には may come between ほか and ない.

～よりほかない attaches to dictionary form verbs.

E.g. リフトの最終さいしゅう便びんが行いってしまったため、歩あるいて降おりるほかない。 "The final lift left, so we have no choice but to walk down."

E.g. 車くるまが壊これたので、歩あるいていくよりほかない。 "My car broke down so I have no choice but to walk."

E.g. テストは終おわった。あとはいい結果けっかを祈いのるよりほかにない。 "The test is over. Now all there is to do is to pray for a good result."

〜よりほかない is fairly stiff/formal in tone, and is mainly used in written or formal spoken scenarios.
