About

~(のこと)となると is slightly formal in tone and roughly translates to "when it comes to X".

The ~(のこと)となると pattern is used to describe that someone's attitude, disposition, actions, etc., changes when it comes to X. In particular, it describes that someone displays actions/an attitude/disposition that is different from usual.

~のこととなると attaches to nouns, and if のこと is omitted, となると may attach to verbs or nouns.

E.g. バイクのこととなるとわたしくわしくないので、いつも竹田たけださんにたすけてもらっています。 "I'm not knowledgeable when it comes to bikes, so I always rely on Takeda for help."

E.g. お菓子かしづくとなるとわたしはとても不器用ぶきようだ。 "When it comes to baking, I'm very clumsy."
