About

The ~はさておき pattern (from the verb 「さておく」, "to set X aside") is used when the speaker wants to set aside a less important topic, in order to talk about something more important.

The most common translations of ~はさておき are "setting aside X" and "X aside".

~はさておき attaches to nouns or nominalized phrases that use ~か・かどうか, or こと.

E.g. 冗談じょうだんはさておき、そろそろ本題ほんだいはいりましょうか。 "Jokes aside, let's get to the main topic."

E.g. あのごはんさんは、あじはさておき値段ねだんやすいのでよくきます。 "As for that restaurant, taste aside, it's cheap so I go often."

E.g. それはさておき、まだピラティスかよってる? "That aside, are you still attending Pilates?"

~はさておき is most commonly used in polite, spoken scenarios.
