~個
General counter
About
個 is one of many "counters" in Japanese. 個 is considered a general, all-purpose counter, and can be used to count many different objects/things.
Although 個 simply attaches directly to the number it counts, the overall reading of the compound changes depending on the number:
Number | With 個 | Reading |
---|---|---|
One |
Four |
Five |
Six |
Seven |
Eight |
Nine |
Ten |
Unlike the counter つ, 個 may be used to count things higher than 10.
