くない
I-adjectives negative form
About
い-adjectives are one of the two types of Japanese adjectives and are characterized by the fact that they all end in the い kana.
い-adjectives may be conjugated into their negative form by replacing their final い with くない. This is technically the continuative form (~く) of an い-adjective with ない attached.
Dictionary form → | Continuative form → | Negative form |
---|---|---|
おいしい | おいしく | おいしくない |
かわいい | かわいく | かわいくない |
Since ない is an い-adjective itself, くない may be further conjugated into the past tense as くなかった.
The polite speech marker です may also attach to a negative い-adjective, however, だ may not be directly attached.
