～ようとも

About

The ～(よう)とも pattern is used to create hypothetical "even if/no matter how..." statements.

～とも attaches to ～よう (volitional form verbs), ～なく (negative + く form verbs), continuative (～く) form い-adjectives, and occasionally, nouns/な-adjectives with であろう attached.

E.g. 何年なんねんかかろうとも、この映画えいがは必かならず完成かんせいさせる。 "Even if it takes years, I will (certainly) finish this movie."

E.g. 練習れんしゅうがどれだけ辛つらくとも、勝かつためなら頑張がんばれる。 "No matter how tough practice is, if it's for the purpose of winning, I will do my best."

E.g. 世界中せかいじゅうを敵てきに回まわそうとも、僕ぼくは君きみの味方みかただ。 "Even if the whole world was against you, I'd be on your side."

～とも is literary in tone and emphatic.
