ばかり round two: ばかりで・ばかりでなく

Introduction

We're back at it with another ばかり lesson!

In this one, we'll deepen your understanding of ばかり, as well as provide you with a variety of new usage patterns.

ばかり: The Sequel! (Still don't drop the り, please.)

In The Depths of Devotion, we introduced you to ばかり as an adverbial particle (副助詞ふくじょし): essentially, a particle that functions as an adverb. We also discussed how this categorization essentially means that ばかり can function as a "more flexible adverb": modifying not just verbs/adverbs, but nouns as well.

Throughout this lesson's content, we'll be making full use of ばかり's flexible nature, and using it to modify all sorts of words.
