In this installment, we'll take a look at how we can use だって to provide reasons, as well as to emphasize how we're feeling. Let's get down to business!
だって(rest of sentence)
Example:
→ だって、行きたくないんだもん!
"Cuz' I don't want to go!”
This usage of だって comes at the start of a sentence or phrase, and means something along the lines of "but" or "because". It sounds a bit childish in tone, and it's definitely casual, so... maybe don't use this at work!
だって tends to start a sentence when the speaker wants to provide and emphasize a reason for feeling X way. Usually, this is in response to someone telling them that they "should do X", or asking why they "don't want to do X".
