Attaching ~よ・~ね・~よね as sentence-enders

Introduction

Howdy! This lesson is a bit of a funny duck because you’ve probably seen these three sentence-enders sprinkled throughout previous example sentences already. The fact of the matter is that they simply can’t be avoided. They are everywhere in spoken Japanese. The reasons for this are many and complex, but I will try and give you a nice snapshot version to get started. Let’s dig in.

    Example:
    → あついです
    ”It’s hot isn’t it?”

Let’s start with,

ね is a fairly complicated, but very common sentence-ender. Throwing ね on the end of your sentence demonstrates a sense of empathy and general societal awareness. But don't worry about those nuances just yet.
