Today, we’re going to cover three different ways to say “but” in Japanese (and maybe also, “butt” this time? No? Fine…). Shall we venture into the world of buts?
でもClause
Example:
→ でもピザが食べたい。
”But I want to eat pizza.”
Clause 1けどClause 2
Example:
→ ピザは食べたいけど、お金がない。
”I want to eat pizza, but I have no money.”
しかしClause/Clause 1しかしClause 2
Example:
→ しかしピザが食べたいです。
”Nevertheless, I want to eat pizza.”
