~一方で
On one hand/doing X, and also doing Y
About
〜一方で is a combination of 一方 and the で particle, and is used to express "while X, also Y", or "on the other hand".
〜一方で's main usages are ① expressing that someone/something has two contrasting aspects; ② expressing that a given subject performs two actions/that two states happen at once (often, not literally at the same time).
①
E.g. しおりは優しい一方で、怒ると怖い。 "While Shiori is kind, she's scary when she's mad."②
E.g. たんじろうは学校に通う一方で、ジムでバイトをしている。 "While going to school, Tanjiro also works a part-time job at the gym."
It is also possible to drop で from 一方で for either usage.
E.g. 自分の仕事をやる一方、新人のトレーニングもしている。 "While doing my own work, I'm also training the new person."
The その一方で pattern is also possible and refers back to previously mentioned information.
E.g. 仕事では真面目だけど、その一方で、家ではだらしない。 "While he's serious (about his job) at work, at home, he's a slob."
