～一方で

About

〜一方いっぽうで is a combination of 一方いっぽう and the で particle, and is used to express "while X, also Y", or "on the other hand".

〜一方いっぽうで's main usages are ① expressing that someone/something has two contrasting aspects; ② expressing that a given subject performs two actions/that two states happen at once (often, not literally at the same time).

E.g. しおりは優やさしい一方いっぽうで、怒おこると怖こわい。 "While Shiori is kind, she's scary when she's mad."

E.g. たんじろうは学校がっこうに通かよう一方いっぽうで、ジムでバイトをしている。 "While going to school, Tanjiro also works a part-time job at the gym."

It is also possible to drop で from 一方いっぽうで for either usage.

E.g. 自分じぶんの仕事しごとをやる一方いっぽう、新人しんじんのトレーニングもしている。 "While doing my own work, I'm also training the new person."

The その一方いっぽうで pattern is also possible and refers back to previously mentioned information.

E.g. 仕事しごとでは真面目まじめだけど、その一方いっぽうで、家いえではだらしない。 "While he's serious (about his job) at work, at home, he's a slob."
