About
~に限って attaches to nouns and can be separated into three main usage categories:
① "X of all Y", where ~に限って marks the particular circumstance where X negative thing occurs.
E.g. "Of course it rains on the day we go hiking."
E.g. "It's so sad that I'm not going to meet anyone today, on the one day my makeup turned out well."
② "Only people who...", where ~に限って is used to make generalized statements about certain types of people.
E.g. "I feel like it's the very people who say they have no money that often buy expensive things."
E.g. "It feels like the very people who say “I promise” are often the ones who don’t keep their promises."
③ "There is no way that X in particular would...", where ~に限って marks the particular person/thing that they believe to be a certain way.
E.g. "There is no way that my child (in particular), would ever say such a strange thing."
E.g. "There's no way that that team would lose in the first round."
