切る・上がる・通す: “Finishing ○○”

Introduction

Hello, and welcome! In this lesson, we'll be springboarding off of our analysis of 込こむ, and creating three new types of compound verbs.

So, I hope you like verbs, and... compounding.

～切きる: To the very end!!!

  Stem form verb切きる
  Example:
  → これ全部ぜんぶ飲のみ切きれないよ！
  ”I can't finish drinking all of this!”

All three compound verbs we'll be looking at today have to do with "finishing" a given action, but they all express this in slightly different ways...

We'll start things off with ～切きる.

When we attach 切きる to a verb stem, we express that said verb is done "completely", or alternatively, we emphasize a given state. Not every verb is 切きる-able, but common compounds use verbs such as 食たべる, 飲のむ, 書かく, 売うる and やる.
