～らしい ("apparently"), is fairly casual and is used to indicate hearsay. Compared to other hearsay markers, ～らしい is fairly uncertain, and often indicates statements made based on multiple, usually second-hand sources.

When used to indicate hearsay, ～らしい is an auxiliary verb, and attaches directly to a verb, adjective, or noun. ～らしい can be made more polite with です, and is often followed by the sentence ender よ.
