About

その上うえ・上うえに are used to express "on top of that"/"not only, but also"/"as well as", and link two pieces of information together.

その上うえ comes at the start of a sentence or clause: 上うえに links together two clauses.

E.g. セッターになるにはトスの正確せいかくさが欠かかせない。その上うえ、相手あいての動うごきを見みる視野しやの広ひろさも必要ひつようだ。 "Setting precision is indispensable in becoming a setter. On top of that, you need to have a wide field of vision with which you can see your opponent's movement."

上うえに links together two clauses:

E.g. 熱ねつが下さがらない上うえに咳せきも出でるので、今日きょうは仕事しごとを休やすみます。"(My) fever won't go down and what's more, I have a cough, so I'm going to take today off from work."

E.g. 遅おくれてきた上うえに、謝あやまらないとは何事なにごとだ。 "What on earth is (this person doing) not apologizing on top of being late?"

上うえに can attach to casual form verbs/い-adjectives or to nouns/な-adjectives using な・である.

その上うえ and 上うえに are most commonly used in written, polite spoken, or formal spoken scenarios.
