And yet/despite that/even so ~

About

それなのに ("Even so; Despite that") comes at the start of a sentence and is used when we want to say that a given result is contrary to our expectations. Often, それなのに is used to express the speaker's disappointment/frustration.

それなのに is most often used in casual, spoken contexts. It may also be used in polite speech.

E.g. 目覚めざましを5つセットした。それなのに全部ぜんぶめてつづけてしまった。 "I set five alarms. Even so, I stopped them all and kept sleeping."

E.g. 明日あした祝日しゅくじつです。それなのに仕事しごとをしなければいけません。 "Tomorrow is a holiday. And yet, I have to work."

E.g. 新築しんちくった。それなのにかべゆかきずだらけだった。 "We bought a newly built (house). And yet, the walls and floor will covered in scrapes."

The sentence following それなのに can't contain the speaker's will, or requests/demands.
