な-adjectives (affirmative past tense)
Na-adjectives (affirmative past tense)
About
な-adjectives are one of the two types of adjectives in Japanese. な-adjectives are very similar to nouns, and unlike い-adjectives, may be followed by だ.
The past tense of な-adjectives is identical to the past tense of nouns.
For the affirmative casual, or plain form, simply add だった.
Dictionary form | Past, casual form |
---|---|

For polite past tense な-adjectives, add でした.

きれい | きれいでした |

Remember that some な-adjectives end in い and therefore may appear to be い-adjectives (e.g. きれい).

Past tense な-adjectives can be formed by attaching だった for casual speech, or でした for polite speech.
