(verb)なかった
Casual past negative (verbs)
About
We can form the casual negative past tense of a verb, by replacing the final ない of a verb's present negative form with なかった.
Negative | Past-Negative |
---|---|
食べない | 食べなかった |
買わない | 買わなかった |
書かない | 書かなかった |
Remember that the final ない of a negative verb is an い-adjective, and therefore conjugates into the past as such.
~なかった constructions can be made polite by adding です. Be careful to not accidentally double up on past tense by adding でした instead.
